What is a Parking Sensor System?
The Parking Sensor system from Reverse Backing Systems is a vehicle safety device that can be added to any car, truck, van and SUV. The device uses ultrasonic technology and is commonly referred to as a backup sensor, reverse sensor, or parking sensor.
How does the Parking Sensor Work?
The Parking sensor system consists of 2 to 8+ sensors, controller and speaker and or display system. The backup sensors are installed on the back of the vehicle in 3 different ways and they send out an ultrasonic signal 4 times per second to scan for objects behind the vehicle. If the ultrasonic waves bounce off an object and are received back to the backup sensor, then the device will warn the driver audibly and/or visually.
Why do I need a Reverse Backing System?
Each year there are over 300,000 reported reverse accidents in the U.S. and that does not include the hundreds of thousands of accidents that are not reported. As a matter of fact, according to the Department of Transportation, 27% of car accidents involve at least one vehicle in reverse. Annually, accidents in reverse cost insurance companies and individuals over 1.3 billion dollars. According to Kidsandcars.org , a non-profit organization focused on improving the safety of vehicles for cars, state that backup accidents killed 91 children in 2003, with 82% of these children under the age of four. This represented a 57% increase from 2002. And according to the Department of Transportation, 70% of all accidents can be avoided in vehicles that have a collision avoidance device.
How is the parking sensor installed?
Reverse Backing Systems offers 3 different installation options depending upon your needs. The typical installation consists of drilling 4 holes (drill bit provided) in your back bumper, securing the sensors in the bumper, plugging these sensors into the controller, installing the controller in a water proof area of the trunk or back of the vehicle, tapping the power into the reverse back light, and running the speaker or LCD into the front of the vehicle. This installation can be done by most people or can be done by most Best Buys and almost all cars stereo retail shops. The second option is our license plate frame system that consists of a license plate frame you place on your vehicle around the license plate. This unit is designed to avoid permanent installation and is very easy to install. You follow the instructions stated above except you do not drill holes in the bumper; you simply install this license plate frame around your license plate. Third option is our truck systems. Since many trucks come with steel bumpers that are difficult to drill into, we provide brackets that can be installed at the bottom of the bumper. And you follow the same instructions as above. Please reference our Installation section on our web site for more details.
How much does the parking sensor system cost to install?
Remember, most people can install these units themselves. Reverse Backing Systems includes everything needed to install these units along with detailed installation instructions.
